March is women’s history month, and today? It’s International Women’s Day. To me, this holiday is just as important (if not more important) as any other holiday during the year.
Now, more than ever, women must fight for their rights and for their voice to be heard. With everything that’s going on around us, we often forget to commemorate the moments, the challenges, and the people that brought us to where we are now. Everyone, of all age, race, and gender – can come together to reflect upon this.
Who inspires and motivates you? Take the time to let a someone in your life know how appreciated they are.
My biggest inspiration has always been my mother. Her unbelievable strength, kindness, and selflessness have driven me through each stage of my life. As a child, I didn’t always understand or appreciate just how hard she worked for myself and my three siblings. Her diligence and selflessness inspires me to work my hardest every single day, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
What else inspires me are people are passionate for a cause. People who have a dream and aren’t afraid to go after it , not because they are motivated by wealth, power and other shallow reasons – but because they face the urge to push themselves further.
Growing up with a love for fashion, I have always been fascinated by a few of the top fashion designers – particularly Coco Chanel. I recall writing more than one term paper about her and her many achievements not only in the fashion industry, but as a woman in her time period. Her unconventional way of thinking included using men’s fabrics in womenswear , and creating much more practical fashion pieces for women – including pants!
But as I have discovered, sewing is not my forte. Recognizing our own strengths and weaknesses is important. Realizing that everyone around you has different strengths and weaknesses is even more important. I emphasis this because ,as humans, it is so common for us to critique one another – mainly because we are so critical of ourselves!
I challenge each of you to spread a little positive energy. Give someone a compliment, show that you care, boost each other’s confidence, and celebrate one another. That’s what it’s all about.
